Miriam Marler's profile

Aramoana: Pathway to the Sea, 2013

This work was a short 5 minute solo dance-film exploring elements of the mole at Aramoana, Otepoti/Dunedin. The beach is situated at the mouth of Otago Harbour, and Aramoana means "pathway to the sea" in Maori. Here I used my senses and somatic sensibility to engage with the kineasthetic, aural, visual, tactile and olefactory information gleaned at the site. I responded through improvised movement to the water, birds, rocks, sky and open space. The work was discussed and included in my Master's thesis (in Dance Studies at the University of Otago) submitted late 2013 for examination.

These stills are from filmmaker Rachel Patching's documentation of my process.
